Hello all, new to the forum, thanks for all the great info so far.
I have a 1987 4runner that I recently did some front diff work on. Since I had the front end apart, I took the time to do a bunch of seals while in the area. Most were sourced thru Toyota, some weren't. The one in question is an OE Toyota seal, PN 90304-76005. it goes on the outer CV up against the knuckle. There is a seal on the knuckle side as well, I did not replace this seal. The way I understand it is, the seals are meant to interface somehow. Upon removal I noticed the CV seal seemed to be flattened. The picture where I am holding both seals, old and new, shows what I'm talking about.
This is how the problem showed up. I went to put the washer and Cclip on the CV inside the hub and noticed the CV wasnt sticking thru enough.
Looking inside the knuckle I noticed the new seal on the CV hitting the Old seal on the knuckle. They appear to have the same OD. This might explain why the old seal from the CV was flattened. I thought it was from someone trying to pry the CV out of the knuckle.
I guess my question is where did I go wrong. Did I order the wrong seal for the CV? Is the existing knuckle seal incorrect? Am I just completely gotarded and need a smack?
Any an all input is appreciated. Love this place and i'm glad i finally have something worth posting, I dont like posting BS for the sake of Post Count, Id rather not waste peoples time. I hope this isnt a stupid easy fix......
