7/8" vs. 15/16" wheel cylinders on my 89

I have a leaking 7/8" wheel cylinder on my 89 4X4. Advance Auto offers the 15/16" for $17.99 and are in stock. The 7/8" are $55.XX and have to order them. My question is are they interchangeable and if so would it be ok to do so? I like to change them in pairs and spending $110 for wheel cylinders is too high, $36 sounds a lot better. Thanks

new one on me, never knew they would have two sizes and I figured they would be metric.

I wonder if the extra 1/16" of an inch would make any difference in the brake pressure...
not an expert but I would go with the cheaper route too.

I never thought there would be too sizes either or be standard as well. 7/8" is on the side of the cylinders on the truck. I will post a pic sometime today.

Buy the cheaper ones that 1/16 of an inch will not change anything noticeable. It's just going to stop 1/16 of a millisecond faster.

I had a new 15/16" but returned it since I needed a 7/8". Then I asked this question here. I wish I didn't return it now. I would have just tried it anyway. I tried honing it and used the old seals since they AdvanceAuto doesn't offer a kit for the 7/8. It held over night, but started leaking when I pressurized it.

A rebuild kit is not available for the 7/8" as far as I know, but I only checked with advanceauto. The one that is pictured is the OG that is leaking. There is a 7/8 on ebay for about $30 shipped.

isn't the 15/16" cyls for the 1 ton rears? ie motor homes and duals?

scratch that autozone site shows the same 7/8" for both.

It's just a personal preference in my replies so I can see where and what I said. All of the black/white just runs together. Is it hard to read?

Here is a linky to ORielly's. They do list two. Both are 7/8 and one is $16.99 and I have to call about the other. They don't even have a listing for the 15/16". I will call them tomorrow. We deal with them at work quite a bit.

Thanks for the help.

I wonder if those 15/16's aren't reman'd and the 7/8's are brand new? That might explain the two sizes. That is if they took 7/8's cylinders and honed them out to 15/16's. Might explain the price difference. Just speculating, mind you.

If you have a Napa in your area, the Wagner's they offer are really good parts. I have some in my '86.
