4Runner ?'s

hey all,
got a 86 4runner and was wondering if i could crank the torsion<sp?> bars at all.
also if anyone here has pics of there 86 with 3in of body lift please post them, im trying to decide what to do. what would a good 31in tire be, thats light weight, has a fairley aggresive tread, and wears good.
thanks for any help

yes you can crank them to a point. you will lessen the ride quality though. if you plan on sticking with IFS you may want to look at Old Man Emu torision bars which are slightly stiffer. there are others that are even thicker and stiffer such as Downey offroad torsions. they are very good for larger than 31 inch tires and a winch bumper. a good wearing tire is the BFGoodrich all-terrain, a fairly good wearing, aggressive tire is the Goodyear Wrangler MTR. a slightly less good wear but still aggressive tire is the Goodrich Mud-Terrain.

I have an 86. The torsion bars on mine are cranked up a bit. I have the Downey 26mm ones. They are stiff as heck so I don't crank them that high, it makes it ride really crappy. I might even put the stock ones back on and crank them up. As far as a lift, I have a 3" Downey suspension lift. I'm considering a 2" body lift, but haven't really gotten in to the pricing phase just yet. I run 33's on it right now. There is a link to some pictures in my signature...JnJ's 86

Probably 1.5"

If you want your tires to wear well then you will need an alignment after messing with the tbar preload.
