3vze cranks hard but wont start

3vze cranks hard but wont start

So lately i have been havin to crank my truck longer than normal to get it to start. And now today it wont start at all.

1989 3.o 5 speed

its getting fuel(i can smell it at the tail pipe.
Cranks no problem
All fuzes in engine bay and in cab are good.
The coil has power
I cant figure it out its just not getting spark

Anyone had this prob before

And dont tell me my problem is the 3.0 thats just hatin.

are your plugs clean and have you checked your wires

i'd start with the pickup in the distributor. check that with an ohm meter and make sure that its functioning properly, if it isn't then it's not telling the coil to fire

ya plugs are only a few months old and the old ones looked good when i changed them out.
My buddy checked the power commin out of the coil to the distributor and it was good too.
I just flipped my coil wire backwards and wiggled the plugs on the coil pack thing and tapped the coil with a wrench and it started. wierd i know. but i have a feelin if i let it sit for an hour it wont start again.
yesterday we also checked the plug wires with a spark tester

My problem seems to be intermitant at the moment

clean the ground for the coil. also a bad pickup generally starts as an intermittant problem (in my experiance with other vehicles anyways) Also when it goes, it's the signal FROM the distributor TO the coil that is the issue
