Question 3vz-e timing probs!! pullin my hair out here

ok just did heads on my 3.slow and got everything back together everything was great but i cant get the damn timing to get on 10 degrees btdc the heads are new cast complete with cams from clearwater cylinder heads. distributor wont line up where the hold down bolt went without the rotor not bieng correctly on top. um im going to check for vaccumm leaks tomororw bt i dont think it has any all vac hoses ok and in the right place. i did jump the ecu makng sure it wasent interfering with the timing. anybody? got a clue wth is goin on?. it runs... drove it back from my shop thinkin bout drivin it off a cliff and getting insurance money hahah jk.. thanks you all.

Sounds like it's running so the distributor isn't 180 out. My guess is you have it a tooth off on the cam gear. Try pulling it out again, noting where the rotor is when the dist. just separates from the cam gear. Then rotate the rotor a little in the correct direction to fix your problem, while lightly pushing in, until the distributor falls in on a different tooth position.

Yea, that's strange. The only other thing I can think of is a gear that's gotten damaged and is no longer in the correct place or the rotor alignment key is broken and the rotor is rotated on the shaft. If you have access to another dist. I'd try to install that one and see what happens.
