22rte guys come in- wideband?

hey, just recently got my first turbo and want to crank up the boost a lil. ~9psi, just enough to power 33s without any issue

i already put a straight pipe in place of the cat and have a flowmaster 2.5" catback, i also cut the intake box and put a k&n in there, and put a straight 3/8 line from the radiator to the turbo

i plan on putting a boost gauge and manual boost controller in but not sure if i REALLY need a wideband, i know everyone I've been talking to says i do, but I rather not spend the $300

I also read that the stock ecu can handle up to 10psi, any thoughts?

My understanding is that the ECU does not read wide band so no point. The ECU looks for cyclic swing not a value. Widebands output a voltage based on the O2 content and the ECU then adjusts based on a value. Standard O2 sensors just give High or low content not an analog value.

With ANY modified turbo vehicle, it's a good idea to have a wideband. Even better to have one in conjunction with a tuning device, so you can net the most power safely from your motor, all the while getting better gas mileage when tuned properly.

i wouldnt consider 2psi and bolt ons "modified" but i know what you're saying... but even with 9psi i should have a wideband? and cant i just tune it by the AMF?

# If you've added a free flowing exhaust and a K&N (or similar) filter, you can probably adjust your AFM 1 tooth richer.
# If you've modestly increased boost, you can probably adjust your AFM 1-2 teeth richer.

found that on Jeff's site, so I think if i turn it up 3 clicks I should be good to go with only a manual boost controller and boost gauge
