22RE Troubles

Ok so I picked up a 22RE with 85,000 give or take a few miles on it. It is in great condition, but who ever pulled the engine from the previous truck took the spark plugs out and left it sit outside for almost a year. So needless to say the cylinders started to rust a little. So I disassembled the engine and exposed the cylinders. Just from soaking the cylinders with parts washer solution, all the rust is gone but it left a little Pitting on the cylinder walls. The Pitting is not bad but could possibly make the engine smoke a little. Using an engine hone for about 2 min on each cylinder cleans them up really well but still some pitting where the pistons were stuck. Im not sure if I should bore the cylinders or keep trying to hone them out. I will try to get some pictures. Any help would be very very helpful. Thanks guy's

If you got the time and dollars, have an automotive machine shop turn the crank and install a new set of rings. Have them hone it with a brush looking hone. Have the head done and install a new timing set. Probably cost you $500 and you motor will be good for another 150k miles. The small pitting won't make an impact on performance or oil usage. If little time and money, do a valve job on the head, new timing set and oil pump and it will still run good. Plus new pan gasket and rear crank seal.

If you've seen some of the patch jobs I have done in the past with good results, you have nothing to worry about.

I really appreciate all the help. I have an Engine builder that is going to bore it out for me and then I'm for sure going to do a whole new timing set and gaskets. Thanks for all the advice
