22re starting issue intermittantly (clutch/brake switch?)

I have an 87 4runner 22re manual, and 1 out of 5 starts it wont start. If I let off the break and clutch a few times it will start, this tells me that there is some sort of switch, that engages when either the break or clutch is depressed, if so what do I need to be looking for? Is this a common issue? Or could it have something to do with the clutch start cancel, hopefully this makes sense, this is just one of a handfull of problems I am experiencing. Any help would be appreciated.

Those clutch start switches are the first to go in all my Toyotas If you do not have help to sit in the vehicle and turn it over or start it

It is a big pain

Yup had a problem with mine as well, but the switch itself was fine, but the bracket that thing is attached to is so darn thin it's not funny. I had to play with mine for a while till it stayed where I wanted it not and where it wanted to bend itself to.

Its usally two things. the bracket that holds the clutch switch, or the ignition switch itself. Power to the starter goes through the ignition for some reason.

Once the neutral safety switch goes, having to use the clutch start cancel button is a nice free way to keep morons from stealing a 'yota.
