20r/22r problem...

I think I'm screwed over here...I got a late (86) 22r block out of a carb pickup and a 20r head. I called LC and told them what i was doing and got a dual row timing conversion kit. We assembled everything and the timing chain is too short. After reading all the FAQ's and other posts, I'm guessing that the chain is too short, and the earlier gen chain will be too long (?)...and that i needed to shave the head down or something...is there any way around this? or do i have to start over again? TIA.

no way around it ... unless you shave the head .

the block you need is the earlier ----> /84 22r .

/85 and up "the lazer block" is a different deck height .
