1st gen lifgtgate motor swap
1987 4runner DLX, 22RE, AT, .........replacing old liftgate window motor for new one
Bought a replacement motor Cardone.
Forgot how to disassemble the tailgate window apparatus to swap old motor for new. bolts on underside and entire thing has to be moved or removed.
Anybody have a video for 1st gen showing this??
Google has 2nd gen which is a bit different. Same with other vids, they are 1990 and above. Former mechanic retired and I forgot how they did it
any help, thanks

liftgate motor
got this earlier along with the other Camry motor possibilty swap. My issue is actually seeing how to remove the old motor as it bolts on the underside. I cant recall if the entire assembly has to be removed so the motor(s) can be detached
and reattached with new one. The wiring probably needs some adjusting, not an issue. The video shown here is abut the large cog wheels that operate the folding regulator; its missing a couple of teeth that the man gets re-welded. it didn't show how to remove
the motor. Appreciate the post. I found everthing but what I'm looking for after an hour on Google and all the prior posts here on YT. I saw it done once but forgot. Wonder if the motor can be swapped by losening the 4 reg. chassis bolts and tilt it and
try to sneak a small persons hand behind the 3 -8mm bolts that actually secure the motor to integrating with the star wheel spine...? Have to be a small hand though.

You need to get the window to the half way point, then slide the regulator out. Your are right, the video doesn't actually show you, but the guy does explain it. And I don't think you can get the motor out and reinstalled without taking the regulator out. The drive gear on the motor should be under spring tension. Keeps the window from dropping to the bottom.

why mess with trying to remove the motor with the rest of the lift assembly still in place? the whole thing can be removed in about 7 minutes. it is as simple as disconnecting the wires, the control rods, the latch cables, and then the 4 bolts that hold the entire thing to the tailgate. once you have it out on a bench, removing the motor is straightforward.
