1993 4runner r150 (3.0) will not go in Reverse
Hey yall,
so I bought a 1993 toyota 4runner 3.0 5spd.
the issue I'm having other then headgasket job lol is for the life of me i can not get it to go into reverse.. i have taken the top off and installed new bushing and also tryed to put it into R with screw driver and nothing.. it did not want to go in 5th but does now.. all other gears are fine. Has anyone delt with this before? Now it has been sitting for 12 years in a barn and the clutch pedal does not have any pressure at all and would that cause a issue even not running?

Absolutely!
The clutch hydraulics, IE the pedal,Master cylinder, fubing, and slave cylinder, don't care at all if the engine is running. It's an "isolated" system. No "connection" to the engine, unlike the brake system. You should be able to push the clutch pedal in, and the clutch should disengage. If it doesn't, and it's been sitting for 12 years, the clutch hydraulic fluid may have drained out. Or there's air in the system. Or the fluid has absorbed so much water, it doesn't work properly any longer. Or the cylinder seals are shot, Mastr, slave, or both, allowing the fluid to flow past them, preventing correct operation.
Happens to my 87 Hilux every winter, when I don't drive it all winter. The fluid all drains out over the winter, so I have to bleed it out when I start using it again come spring. I just fill the MC up, and pump the pedal until the air has all come out. Half an hour of pedal pumping. Great workout for my left leg
One day, I'll have to replace the slave cylinder. One of these days...
Try bleeding you system out. Allow all the old fluid to drain out, while adding fresh to the Master cylinder as it goes. Either do it by pumping the pedal, or permit it to gravity drain. Once it's all been replaced, try it out, and see if it starts working properly.
Does any of that help at all??

Sorry for late response I ended up getting called out of state for work.. but little update I replaced the slave and master and have amazing pressure and clutch works great. I've driving the 4runner for 162 miles as of today and still can not get it into reverse. I went as far as a pry bar working it the little I have to try to force it into reverse 😅 I also bought another transmission so I'm not worried about messing this one up. I'm just trying to see if anyone has ever had this issue and what was the put come of it??

Well another update! I actually got it to go into reverse and works great. Since I have another transmission I was going to swap in I thought what the heck I can't hurt it anymore then it is so I took the shifter off and with a pry bar I started to beat on the rod in the reverse position and about the 6th GOOD wack it went in and is working great!
