Maybe im an idiot but when Im driving and turn cruise control on the light does come on but when I try to set it it wont take....Does a manual as opposed to an automatic make a difference on the problem? (Mines an Manual)s Could it be a fuse? Any help on this is much appreaciated for long drives its a pain in the A#$ to not have cruise control..

I have the same problem in my 94 Runner. I read a recent post about the vacuum diaphragm being cracked and leaking vacuum, which can also cause idle and other problems. Does anyone know where we could even start with some info on troubleshooting?

Cruise control

Mine quit working on my 88 manual when I put in a new engine. Same symptoms. Trouble ended up being the small vacuum hose that goes from the Cruise control diaphram to the other side of the engine. I would make sure that hose is hooked up right.

Theres two clutch pedel sensors. One for the clutch being to the floor for your starter safety circuit. An one for the pedal being all the way up, that one enables the cruise control. Lot of times the clutch pedal isn't returning up all the way, or that sensor (more like a switch) is bad. It would be worth checking, as this has been lots of peoples problem with manual tranys and cruise control.
