1986 4runner via Craigslist

I decided to give the Tundra a Monday-Friday job and picked up a 1986 4Runner for the weekends off Craigslist! The 4Runner is all original including the paint except for the FJ Cruiser wheels and seats from a 95 4Runner! I can't believe the shape of the body and it is 99% Rust free! I couldn't find any rust or bondo after looking underneath and around the exterior for 30 minutes! I pulled up the carpet in several places and no rust! The 22RE motor purrs like a kitten and it only needs a few minor interior things! Everything works except the AC but that isn't an issue once i take off the top! My only plan in the next few months is to buy a soft top! I am curious of any other soft top options other than Canback or Softtopper? I am leaning towards Softtopper right now unless I can find a cheaper alternative! Here are a couple of pictures!

Nice and clean. The AC issue could just be low on charge. Some times you can add 12oz and it will kick on.

Nice truck! A good unmodified truck is always a good find.

Having seen both the CanBack and Soft Toppers in person, the CanBack is higher quality. Once installed it's less saggy looking and the fit and finish is better. The CanBack sides and back roll up. If my memory is correct the Soft Topper doesn't do this but the whole assembly hinges back kind of like a convertible car. That's a personal choice you'll have to decide which is better. CanBack's frame is capable of holding a roof basket/roof rack up to 250 pounds or something. Soft Topper has no ability to hold a roof basket/roof rack. Both are going to flap in the wind when you drive. Both are going to drip a bit if you drive in the rain because they aren't 100% sealed and water will be blown in. Neither should leak when parked in the rain. Can Back is a lot more expensive but I'm sure most people who spent the extra money will say they are happy. I happen to be fortunate that the previous owner of my truck bought the CanBack shortly before selling it to me.
