I have the A/C compresor off of my 85 4Runner 22r/e and would like to know if it works before I put it on the truck. The previous owner said it worked but you know how that goes. Is there any way I can test it before I put it on the truck? Pep Boys will test it but they want $40.00; any other suggestions.

 

energize the coil, and see if the clutch engages. then spin it around and see how it sounds. should run very smooth.

 

I think you can just turn the center of the clutch/pulley to see if it turns smoothly. Without energizing.
