tech. help

a coupleweeks ago i noticed my exhaust backfiring, it wasnt loud it was just little pops one after the other. so today i noticed a hose on top of the engine and it wasnt conected it was just resting on top of the hole that it is suposed to be connected to. so i lifted it up and there is a little metal piece and a spring inside of it, and the plastic connector is all chewed up, does anyone know how i can fix this? i will post pics up later today

that's your pcv(positive crankcase ventilation) valve if it's the one I think your talking about. The plastic valve with the big emissions line coming off of it that goes straight into your valve cover. I don't think it's repairable, you should just replace it.
