speedometer reads wrong

speedometer reads wrong

Hi I just bought a 85 celica and the speedometer reads wrong. instead of 80, it reads 70. what should I do> thanks

Better than mine that reads 50 when i'm going 65. I wonder if someone changed the gearing or something thats strange.

Easiest solution would be go get a gps.

Yeah with trucks it's usually because someone has bigger than stock tires on it, so the ratio is messed up and it doesn't read right. Think your celica has different than stock size tires? I don't think there's much room in the wheel wells for bigger tires on those. What are you comparing it to to find out that it's wrong? In a truck, it's reading the gears spinning in the transfer case, but unless your celica is one of the 4wd ones, I don't know where the speed sensor is on it, or really anything about the system...this is a Toyota site, but you'll be lucky to find many people here who know about anything but trucks.
