should i??
seriously considering an 85 4runner with the following ad: the interior is in great shape and body is fairly straight. this would make the ultimate wheeler. 104k miles on the whole truck. clutch and tranny are great. engine runs but a little rough. i noticed that a couple of the vsv valves are missing, which is probably to blame and as a result, it fails deq. this would be a cheap easy fix. this thing is worth a lot more if it ran a little better and had good tags. please dont low ball me as i know what these are worth. has factory sunroof and sr5 interior with power windows and working ac. these are highly sought after, get it here cheap and do the work yourself and save. runs plenty good to drive home, just a little stumbly and the tires are pretty shot, but on nice black rock crawlers!!
is it worth $2400? should i offer him say.... 1600??? would it be worth it?

Sounds like this guy knows what he has. If that be the case, he won't even consider anything lower than $2000.
The real question is, what price (reasonable price) will you be happy with?
A good deal is when both parties walk away getting what they want.

For an '85 in the Willamette Valley that is very low mileage. Like Hayes mentioned it sounds like he know what he has and the value. I would say offer $2K, but it sounds like he will not go much below his asking price. If it is a 22RE it would be a good find...

I'd say offer him $1600, and see if he takes it. If not, then offer him $1800. It really doesn't matter if he knows what he's got, or not. If he's going broke, or needs the money, he will likely take money from who ever is serious about it, or maybe he just needs to get rid of it. Good luck!!!

$1600 is way lowball offer. Offer him what it is realistically worth. see if he will fix the VSV problems. Take a long hard look at it. Many people dont actually know whats wrong with their rig, and start guessing and making up things to guess whats wrong with it.
