Seat padding/foam

Ok gurus talk to me !!! I need to replace the seat bottom foam and the seat back foam. The seat back is actually the worst one. I can live with the seat bottom I have but I’d like to do both. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to get this stuff ? I’m gonna end up doing one thing at a time until it’s fully restored. It’s turning into an obsession lol

You can patch it with the right glue and add to it using high density sheet foam of 1/2- 3/4 “ thickness. I don’t believe there are any new foam cushions available. I have looked and looked. You may be able to adapt an aftermarket one from a later truck available from Dorman or off ebay, i started looking into that, but you are in for a learning curve and lots of time. If you bring it to a local upholstery shop they will be able to improve what you have. Lots of videos on YT about foam repair but the best results will probably be bringing it to a shop. For starters you can unbolt and swap the seat base and back over from the passengers side. They have far less use on them.

Thank you for the reply. I think you’re right I’ve searched everywhere. I talked to a friend of mine he’s got a high level upholstery guy that can make new seat foam pads from scratch. I think that’s gonna be my only option. He said he has different density foams he can use which might be nice. I’ll update the post once we get it done. He’s busy now so I’m kind of in line waiting my turn.

I just went through this on a 2012 (Not Toyota) truck and even IT'S too old to get new cushions or fabric. I did find one aftermarket seat base foam but had to fix the seat back foam. I followed a couple Youtube videos and cut and glued chunks of good foam from the old seat bottom. It wasn't hard. I used spray glue and then shaped the foam with knife, hacksaw blade and sanding discs. Came out great.

An upholstery shop would most likely fix yours the same way or make a new one if it's too far gone. I did as @Melrose 4r suggested on some 2nd gen 4Runner seats and put a set of foam cushions and the fabric from a matching passenger seat on the driver side seat. That was back when they were more plentiful though. We have to be pretty resourceful or have deep pockets to fix up these older trucks now unfortunately.

Good luck with it!

Nice, I got my bench seat done when I got my truck, wasn’t cheap but it’s still as good as the day I got it done. Funny when I got it done the guy was really trying to get me to add heated seat elements, I said no that’s ok I don’t need heated seats…….oh if I could rewind and say yes

Post some pics when you get it done!!!
