My First Runner......

Alright, so here's the story, I just picked up an 85 runner Saturday, and it's time to get to work...... Its already got enough lift to keep the 35's from rubbing, so I'm set there, but I'm thinking that since it's lacking some power, I'll probably need to regear the beast, to get some power back. Anybody got any suggestions on the pros/cons for the different gear rations, or a good thread/comparison? Also, I'm really interested in getting the dual transfer case set up, but I haven't really found much other than the Marlin Crawler setup..... Any other ideas there?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I was talking to a guy this weekend about gearing he had a 85 and used the 4.10 for mudding and off roading he said when you re gear you lose some of the low end torque.
that was his statement from what I have read in older posts on this subject that can be found with the search option.
that it is good to re gear for on road use but I have never seen any body complain about re gearing and losing the lower end but I bet you can find the answer with the SEARCH button.

errr...if your gears aren't tall enough you are going to lose power across the ENTIRE RPM range.

Running REALLY tall gears will actuly make your truck seem faster, but your top speed and gas mileage would suck. whoever told you that didn't know what they were talking about.

Example: (I can't think of the gear ratios exactly right now so spare that part)

My Dad and his friend both have 1973 Triumph TR6's with overdrive and ansa header back exhausts. His friend has taller than stock gears. In a straight line, his friends car will destroy his, but it will top out at around 90mph while my dad's TR6 will get up to a little over 100mph.

Before you decide to regear, check to see what gears you already have. remember, it is just a little 4cyl motor. If you search you can find out how to do this, even if they have already been changed.
