Hello all. Looking for some information about this 1985 Turbo Diesel truck. Long story short, it's an original owner truck that is a neighbor of my parents. For the past 15 years he hasn't driven it much. I've always been interested in it and my dad finally got to asking if he would sell it. He said make him an offer. I've been looking for any information on what market value is and I can't find anything for this year. All I know is it's a manual transmission with about 175k miles. Unknown how it drives, any mechanical issues, or any other problems since it's rarely driven and i wasn't able to talk to him directly.
Since he is a good neighbor to my parents I want to offer a fair price but at the same time not overspend, especially if I have to go through the truck.
Are there good places to get parts for this year model ?
Thanks in advance
here are the only photos I have currently.
Not many diesels were available at that time, so your research may be limited. I would test drive it and see how it goes from there. Most everything should be available either from the aftermarket or the dealer. Your only hurdle will be the engine itself. AND I don't think all of those were turbo'd so it may be a slow drive. Personally I'd offer about 1500-2k and see where that takes you. Here is a short article for you: https://www.theautopian.com/toyota-g...-away-forever/
I believe it should be a 2L engine in it , cant remember , but I believe the turbo (2LT) was only available in the 4WD's , we sold tons of them at the dealership I worked for back in the day , Canada had different import laws then the US . From what I remember , they did have a problem dropping the valve seats .. due to over heating , I seem to remember , any kind of highway driving you do , when you get to your destination , don't just shut it off , you need to let it idle for a couple mins to cool down .
I have all the manuals if you ever need any more technical info .
As far a value , couldn't tell you , California has a totally different market !
Thanks for the replies. Appreciate it since i have not been having much luck looking for information.
On the rear post behind the door there is a badge that says Turbo so I would assume it's a Turbo Diesel?
My goal is to visit parents soon and try to talk to the neighbor about the truck and get a better feel for what is needed.
Did a little searching on the Google and came up with this: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/http://wonk.sytes.net/76s/lj/lj70faq/Toyota%20L%202L%202LT%20repair%20manual%201984.pdf
Online free PDF copy of the 1985 repair manual for the Toyota L, 2L & 2L-T(Turbo) diesel engines. Make sure you download it & save it to hard-drive in case it disappears from the web.
