Hi all,

I’ve recently started using my 84 as a DD. It’s idle is running a bit fast 900 vs. 750 per the sticker. I can’t go lower as tip of the screw is no longer touching the linkage piece it should be sitting on. I’ve checked the timing (advance vacuum plugged) which is per sticker at 5 degrees, I have seen a couple posts here say different though. No vac leaks that I can find. It runs very good but is getting low mpg (under 20), and I have been pretty light on the pedal. With all the vac lines and attachments to the carb (stock Aisin) I’m kinda new to these trucks and wondering where to look next.

FWIW, the truck was worked on (timing chain & cover, valve adjust, fuel filter) just before I got it by a guy who most everyone says is questionable.

I've never gotten over 20 on my 87' with a stock Aisin.
Mine idles around 900.
Have any pics of what youre talking about as far as idle set screw on the linkage?

 

Thanks peow130, I went to get a pic and found that I was turning the wrong screw. The idle is buried behind all the xxx vac hoses.

I have it down to 650 +- rpm (about 100 less than the sticker) and it purrs. I expect I will pick up 1 or 2 more mpg.

Timing on the carbed 22R's is 0 degrees with vac advance hose removed. 22RE's are 5 degrees. You said the "sticker" says 5 degrees? That hood could have come from a later 2RE truck.....

 

No obvious evidence that the hood or truck has been damaged, but I'll look further.

I've found that mine runs quite a bit better at about 5 degrees.
Little better off-idle response, and somewhat more peppy.
Could be because i have platinum II's, and an advanced timing would be better regardless.
