hard start 85 4runner 22re

Hey guy's I have a 85 4runner with a 22re. I got the 4runner in pieces. The engine was rebuilt about 18 years ago. I out the engine in and I think I have it wired up right. Had to replace the fuel tank fuel line and fuel pump. I'm having problem starting it. But when I do get it running it run OK. I've drove it around and it seem's to run OK. Then when I restart it some times it starts up OK then other times it is hard to start. Any Idea on what it could be.
Thanks

New fuel filter? Assuming you used new components when you put it together, have you done a compression or leak down test on it? Did it throw any codes while you drove? Not all of them actually flash the checked engine light so if you haven't jumped the terminal you should.

I did the leak down and compression test and all is good.It did Have code and it was for the knock sensor. I replace it and don't have any more codes. I found that the cold start injector was clogged so I cleaned it out and ck the cold start time sw. Test it and it is working now but still have the hard start issue.
I all so cleaned the throttle body. all vac line has been replaced. Still no luck

It sounds like the cold start injector time switch is wonky. Go through the procedures of testing before replacing it. The coolant temperature sensor is right next to it and can sometimes cause the same symptoms but usually the engine will run crappy at all times, not just starting. Test that out too while you have the ohm meter out.

Last year I was having a hard start issue. I think it may have been caused by a leaking cold start injector, I replaced the banjo bolt in the connector with a regular bolt to block the fuel flow, and haven't had an issue since then. I still intend to diagnose exactly what's going on, but haven't gotten back to it yet. My truck also fired up no problem all winter without the fuel going through the cold start injector, but it doesn't get very cold around these parts.

Just my .02 cents
