How much book time would it take to do the following job?


The truck is an 85 4x4 with no a/c and no power steering.

Timing chain and all is assorted parts, water pump, seals, replace valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, adjust valves.

My truck has 140k miles which are original and this truck has never been abused. can't hear any rattle at this time, but as a precaution I'm considering changing out the timing chain. I don't hear any slap on start up yet.

I was told 12 hours which seemed a bit high. I don't ever remeber the time being that high on my 1992 Toyota which had a/c and power steering, but that was 9 years ago.

 

Took me a Friday night, Saturday and Sunday afternoon in a heated well lit shop to to do mine total about 12-14 hours actually working on it (few beers friday though! ) A independent shop quoted me 11hrs to do it.

 

That confirms, Im not that rich

Guess I will just do it myself, that way I can control the quality of parts and labor.

Now if it would just stop raining

 

It definitely won't be cheap. I'm guessing a minimum of 10-12 hours for everything you listed. If you're not looking to spend a ton of money, I would suggest tackling the project yourself.
