how come i see 84s and 85s with different style beds?

 

there are import beds (top rail) , and domestic beds (fleetside) .

to get around "import" laws , some Toyota trucks were imported into the US as a cab and chassis , the USA built (california) there own bed and installed them "at the port" . You are the only place in the world with this "design" of bed .. the rest of the world has the rails on the bed .

neither nor were rare in the US .. there were 100's of thousands , imported , and built . you want rare .. find a Trekker .
