Well guys looks like I'm back at it again, in a way this is a continuation of my first issue: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f115/84-toyota-pickup-stumbles-while-offroad-242205/

Basically what happened was: Took it out in the mud, started stumbling again while in the mud, parked it for the night, drove home the next morning and since that night it's had a bigger acceleration issue than before which hasn't cleared up in the last 2 weeks. Whenever you try to give it any gas I.E. trying to accelerate from a light on the highway all it wants to do is bog down and slowly work it's way up in RPMs. Only drove it once like that and it was bad enough that I could barely pull off 50 in a 55. I checked the truck after I hit the mud that night and it didn't get any water under the dizzy cap, not even a spec of dirt on the new air filter or any water anywhere in the intake hose/filter housing. I changed the plugs just for giggles (ones in there weren't bad and showed that the fuel mixture is spot on) to no avail. Cap/rotor are fine. Wires are fine. Carb is newly rebuilt but was thoroughly inspected and everything is fine. No vacuum leaks. Drained the gas and put in fresh gas as well as a new fuel filter, still nothing. I'm not sure what it could be honestly but I'm leaning more towards it being an ignition related issue due to the fuel system all being recently replaced and functioning properly. Any ideas? Really wanna get the Yota running again, I can't afford to keep driving my Buddy's 8 MPG F-150 .

Did you check the connection to the TB and make sure no air is entering the intake system after the MAF. This can cause poor MPG and hesitation.

 

First off, thanks for the reply CBR! And to answer your question:

Nope, it has a carburetor. Did check all vacuum lines though and since I replaced them all when I rebuilt the carb there aren't any leaks in the vacuum system anywhere.

P.S. I like your taste in transportation. Can't go wrong with a 'yota and a CBR

 

Pull the dist cap and draw a vacuum on the lines and see if the advance is working. If you know someone with a similar truck see if you can borrow his coil for awhile, they can do strange things.

 

Checked the advance and it's working, don't know anyone with a similar truck, most of the guys I wheel with have Jeeps or full-size rigs but if I can't find anything else by the end of the week then I'll probably just pick one up at Napa. Doubt the truck would complain about a new coil whether that's the issue or not. Thanks for the help again guys! I'll get back to ya if I find anything I missed, hopefully it's something simple that I somehow missed.

 

I have been trying to figure this out for awhile now. Your discription is exactly what my truck is doing. Have you had any luck ? I have done so many things, right now I feel it is the carb even though I just rebuilt it again.I shall persavere!!! Thanks

 

yeah i would start replacing your ignition system starting with the coil. coyote is right, they can do weird and mysterious things sometimes. my vw squareback did the same thing after i swapped the coil it drives like a dream now. other than that awesome vw oil leak issue. oh wait toyotas are the same way!! lol
