22R short block replacement and top end rebuild
Hey, long time reader of the posts in this community, just recently registered. Anyway, my daily driver '84 22R 4Runner has no compression and leaks from the cylinders to the crankcase, so it's either piston rings leaking or the cylinder sidewalls that are marred up allowing air past. Anyway, the truck has 240,000mi on it with the original 22R, and myself being no bottom-end rebuild expert (plus lacking most of the necessary tools), I've decided to buy a complete short block to swap out for mine.
I'm planning on getting the street 22R short block from LC Engineering as I have heard several good recommendations for them. The head has been cleaned up and rebuilt already. The guy I bought the truck from did some serious damage "rebuilding" the carb, so I'm thinking about just switching out to a Weber 32/36 carb which sounds like it would be worthwhile over stock.
Since I'll be pulling the engine off the tranny, I just wondered if anyone had any advice as to what other relatively easy replacements might be worthwhile for a truck with 240,000mi once I'm in there (clutch? bearings, etc.)
