22r heater hose connections

I bought an old 84 truck with a 22r that guy had sent the motor out to be rebuilt but had installed the motor himself. I believe he miss connected the water heater hoses. to the point, I think he managed to pump water into the motor through the intake somehow. In the first picture I'm pointing at where a heater hose was attached to, is this right? in the second that valve looks to be how you control the level of heat your outputting and it's completely bypassed. I guess what im asking is how are these hoses supposed to be hooked up properly?

There is a question mark shaped hose that goes from the tube you are pointing at to the heater control valve. I would replace the rusty metal valve with the later plastic one. A bolt in upgrade.

I venture the valve seized up the last owner needed heat in a hurry .

Hot coolant flowing through the heater core when it is 100 degrees out

Thanks, guys. I'll look for the replacement valve and that hose. This truck is a real basket case. I am looking for wiring now. All the trucks in the junkyards are immediately stripped to nothing in a day or two I can't make it to the yards quick enough to get them.
