Wheels and backspacing?

i have a 1979 toyota pickup, my parents r going to be buying me wheels for x-mas :xmas3:, i m getting Black Rock Crawler Type 51s or Type 97, 15x8s, my question to you is what size backspacing do i need to run 12.50s sumwhat close to the fenders...i DO NOT want flares, my problem now is that i have a set of mag wheels on it now (15x10) and the inside of the wheels on the fronts, are rubbing on the tie rod ends...i dont want to run spacers but i will if i need to..

1.) what size backspacing? (i beleive 3.75 is the only backspacing on the 51s on 6x5.5, and 3.75 and 4.5 are avalilabe on the 97s)
2.) if i need to run spacers, what size?

im going to run 31x10.5s for the winter then throw on the 33x12.50s for the summer so like i said i want to be a able to run 12.50s without them sticking out way to far...i run them now and only like 1" is past the fenders and i would like to keep it around that, cops around here are pretty cool about thats stuff

thanks in advance!

Absolutely no more than 4" backspacing. With some wheels this may be too much. 3½" is a safe bet for just about any wheel. If your options include a 3¾" backspacing, go for that but be prepared to pick up a pair of spacers if need be. The 5/16" ones from just about any parts store will do nicely if needed.

ordered a set of Rock Crawler Type 97s today at A&A Auto Parts for $56 a wheel and get this, it was a buy 3 get the 4th free deal!! they should be there tomorrow, but i'll pick them up monday they are 15x8s with 3.75" backspacing.....i really hope they fit w/o rubbing, they guy told me "it's a hit or miss thing, they might fit, and they might not...", but if all else fails, i guess i will have to bite the bullet and buy a set of spacers...bummer, more $$....
