Purchased a set of Bilstein 4600 rear shocks for my 1980 4x4. Part number 24-188203, confirmed the correct fit via Bilsteins site. Had them installed by a local shop and was told they were too tall and not the right shock??? This is a mid-travel shock to my understanding, do they need to be compressed on install?

This is on a stock truck, no lift/lower.

 

I purchased the same shocks for my '81. The shop installed them with no problem.
