The golden snapper (to'au) is invasive. It was introduced by state legislature some years back along with blue lined snapper or ta'ape. Same legislature that introduced the Mongoose to combat rats. Which never worked because rats are nocturnal and Mongoose are dayurnal. Lol. No college edumucation there. They compete with native species for food so we take em out whenever we can. Being of the snapper family they are great eating.
Fender flares are a must to avoid tickets from the popo. I don't quite like the Hawaiian style yotas with 15 inch wide tires, sky high lifts etc. I'm staying with functional mods without risk of tickets. Lol
Bought it in January 1979 and told it was the first one sold on the East Coast. VIN JT4RN37xxx0000376. The only option on it was A/C. Got it just before the big President's Day blizzard of '79 where we got 26" in the Balitmore/DC area. She was the 1st truck out of the parking lot in Ft Meade after pulling 6 straight shifts. Dodges, Fords, Chevys and Jeeps of my friends were still digging (ok I helped pull some of them).
After getting out of the Navy, I moved back to CA which 'required' some modding. Wheels/tires, add-a-leaf lift, roll bar, lights, tonneau cover, push bar were the first to go on.
Stupidity of youth took over one day at Pismo where I flipped her but was still able to drive the 40 miles home. (Notice the KCs are untouched haha)
This gave me the perfect excuse to put some custom paint on it, and I ended up with a silver over black combination
For the next 6 years, this truck was everything from Salinas River play toy
....to communications center for endurance horse races.....
...to chase/recovery vehicle for motocross races.....
....to Molina Ghost runner.
But Pismo was my home 'turf' and it is there I had the most fun, both playing around.....
...or competing where I won several classes at the Oceano Sand Nationals in the early 80s
Eventually, I rejoined the Navy and was sent overseas, but refused to leave my truck behind. Before I sold her in 1986, I was able to run the beaches of Southern Spain
Before I was sent to a location where they wouldn't allow us to ship our POVs, I sold her to a Navy Shore Patrol in Rota, Spain in 1986. Wish I could find her again. This is the way she looked when sold....
This is where nearly 40 years of Toyota truck and car ownership started. Next I will dig up and scan pics of my 5 other pre-84 HiLux trucks

I would hate to lose bed length but I would trade for one of those quad cabs in a heartbeat. Who was the genious at Toyota who said "Those will never sell in the US."?????
If you drove one of those up here you'd have guys flagging you down tryng to buy it off you as soon as you got accross the border.

I think it takes away from the good looks of the single cab . IMO , it dosnt work with this gen truck ... but that's just my 2C

I get it Slacker. Ithink the standard cabs “look better”, but the functionality of the quad cab wouldbe great for me. Also the non-existence of them in the US would make for a real head turner.

Yeah, or like putting a turbo sports car engine in a 4x4 truck. Oh, wait, we do that don't we (7M, 2JZ). At least some on here do and some others, like myself, dream of doing it.
Not actually arguing your point Slacker, just friendly banter. We all have our own ideas of what's "cool". Most people likely think everyone on here is strange for geeking out over 30+ year old 4 cyl trucks. To each his own, right?
Just don't try to convince me that car bodies transplanted onto 4x4 truck running gear are cool or look good. They aren't and they don't.
My new toy and my dad owned it before me. So info is 5.29gears, high steer, 6in leafs and 2in shackles and 35 BFG KM2. This will be my forever toy planes are to paint it and convert it to a 22re, lockers front and rear and all camo inside. Will post as I clean it up and finish the truck.

.[/QUOTE i will my 2cents.I don't think you can compare a 4x4 to a corvette.i sure don't want a 4 door corvette either and also wouldn't want a 4 door Chevelle either.but there two different animals. Wouldn't you much rather be able to a few people and your dog plus gear to a remote beach in air conditioning. A double cab is just like a trekker. They both have rear seats. One is just easier to get in.I like my double cab better then the trekker.
