engine?? swap???

ive got a 78 toy 2wd and was wandring what i would have to change to put a chev 350 in it. or if it would be better and cheaper to build the 20r. and how much power can i get out of the 20r.

cant get much power of the lil 20rs i went with a new 22r swap and part of me wishes i went with the chevy, what it takes to swap it in there im not sure i never looked at it that closely. i would say try searching im sure theres a write up on this site or maybe search it on google too. its pretty common you will find stuff.

You'll need an adapter for the bellhousing, clutch stuff from the chevy, and more I'm most certainly forgetting. Most people do the 350 V-8 or a 4.3L V6 that is a total gas pig.

I wouldn't run a stock Toyota tranny (especially an L series) behind a V8, even a mild one. Good thing about being 2wd is that there are numerous options for different trannies that will work just fine, a T5 from a Camaro would be my choice but there are others. In any case, a manual tranny would require a bit of fab work on your part (crossmember, etc.) , an auto may or may not.

And don't forget suspension. You'll have to beef it up a lot to handle the weight, and there's clearance issues with the oil pan to deal with. And cooling, and clearance issues in the engine compartment.
