Hey all, new here but been reading for awhile.
Recently got a new to me 83 Dlx 5spd. Stoked as I’ve wanted one for ages, sold my trusty 99 Tacoma with 315k on it to go back in time with this thing. Love this truck, loads of plans for it but first some long overdue care and fixing of things.
My what I assume is original l52 just kept getting noisier so opted to swap to a rebuilt g52 and t case from toy connection in Santa Clara.
i pulled my l52 today, so gonna drop that off tomorrow for core and pick up my g52.
Now my question, I know I need my driveline lengths adjusted, rear shortened and front lengthened. But what I’m wondering is if anyone who has done this swap can give me new driveline measurements? Reason being, it’s about a 3 hr round trip to nearest driveline shop, and it’s near where I’m picking up my tranny. Would be nice to get it all done in fewer trips.
I’ve read that g and w series are 4” longer, so is it as simple as minus 4 on rear and add 4 to front?
if I need to wait and get it mocked up and measured I can, really just being impatient and trying to save myself another couple 3 hr round trips to drop and pick up driveshafts. Also waiting on my budbuilt crossmember to show up so if I gotta wait til I get trans, hoping I can get it temp’d in and get measurements beforehand.
Ive at last chose to go from my cast iron (read: :mad3: )POS L50 to a G52. I might want to hear from some other first gen pickup folks who have done this. I realize it bolts straight up, yet what I want to know is what other stuff you did, in the event that I can utilize my topshift T-case, on the off chance that I can utilize the drivelines off of a 84 or 85 longbed as opposed to having mine cut down...and whatever else that I ought to be aware and deceives you did.
