Hey everyone I got a 82 short bed & the cv joint on the front drive line is bad. I checked it & it has a lot of play in it. It also makes a lot of clacking noise when I put it in 4wd & lock the hubs. Anyways I've never replaced one so I am wanting to no ware to get one & how much they cost. Also is their a tilt steering column I can put in it.

I would think it's the front drvshaft !!

not sure where you USA guys can get a new shaft from , I would think some guys like pats drive line , if you have em in the US .. i'm sure some one else will set you straight on that .. and i believe your correct when you say " & it has a lot of play in it. It also makes a lot of clacking noise " as to REPLACE it .

you can rebuild them , but not the splines , and the "play" is most likely the splines .

you can also put any tilt unit from 81-83 truck , just make sure you get the colum cover as well

What are we talking about here? Birfields, driveshafts or steering columns? Your post is vague about where this "play" actually is

 

I was talking about the cv joint on the front drive line wright ware it bolts to the transfer case. The play in it is I grab it & push on it it moves up & down more than I think it should. As far as the steering column I was just wondering if their was any out their for my truck. Hope this explains it better.

 

That would be a Universal joint, not a CV joint. Easy to replace with a press. As for the steering shaft, look for one in a junk yard
