i just bought the coleman one person kayak. it is inflatable with 30 guage pvc on bottom and 23 on top. has anyone used this before? i am just a beginner and plan on messing around on lakes and rivers so no intense white water for me . i wish i had the money for a big plastic one but maybe in the future. any reveiws?

 

i would advise against whitewater in an inflatable kyak due to fact you will be sitting lower than a regular inflatable raft, and even thouse have been known to rip open on real rapids due to the rock formations

However, I do a bit of whitewater rafting on the Snake and Shoshone rivers in NW Wyoming and we always use inflatable rafts, never sunk one yet. Also inflatable kayaks, or Rubber Duckies, are the rage in the whitewater communities of Jackson Hole, WY and Bozeman, MT. Have you ever been in an inflatable kayak, Jim? Too much fun!

Rowdy - I'm also considering one of the Coleman units to keep in my truck for floating alpine lakes in the mountains. Which one did you get? The 1 person Deluxe or the Sport? They are NMMA certified so they meet all the design and safety standards. I think these would make a great kayak to keep rolled up in the back of the truck and if you find some water you can't resist, blow it up and float your cares away. I'm thinking of using mine in conjunction with the MV50 air compressor I purchased this summer. As long as you don't get in over your head, I think you'll have a great time and I think you purchased a quality product.

 

Hmmm not sure about which one i got.. it has a large looking cargo net over the leg compartment and is definetely not an open one. Sport? im pretty sure. anyway im pissed cuz the website said it was in stock so i am paying 40 bucks for 3day select shipping. then i get this email saying they are out of stock? but will ship in 4-7 days? (no point to get the 3day if its out of stock) im just venting so disreguard that part. but i am very excited an just bought a micro pelican case for my camera and stuff and i can see myself getting into the sport once i have more time. i just love the idea of being so nimble on the water and going wherever i want to. Bagger its good to hear that these are not just a theory and that you actually have seen them in action lol

 

Just got off the Hiwasee river this morning, it was my first one. Saw some people in inflatables nerfing the crap out of huge, sharp rocks and not a single one popped. Also, my girlfriend picked up an inflatable when she was little and said that the guy she bought it from took it down the Colorado and only flipped it 3 times, which apparently is a very small number in comparison to all the times normally you flip it. Anyways, don't be afraid to hit a smaller river in your area, it's a lot of fun, and not very difficult, just learn how to steer from someone who's been in it a while, as that's really the only difficult part.
