CO- June 17 07- Upper Carnage Solo Run

Though I do love wheeling with others, meeting new folks, and hanging with old friends, I often get a longing to go out and just be alone in the woods with my truck.

Upper Carnage is a great place to do that, as almost nobody goes up there. It was fathers day, so I knew better than to try and mess with the cluster**** that is the lower Carnage trail.

Anyway, plenty of good places to play, and only met two other jeeps the whole day, they were just coming up as I was headed out.

Anyway, some pictures.

The trail, for those who might be interested:

The rest:

Wheeling does make me smile

Trail starts to get tight up at the top. Not too bad, but if you don?t watch it, you?ll get pin striping.

Chunked my tires pretty good. Sucks.

Nice pics Issac. I know the feeling, sometimes it's nice to just get out there on your own and releave a little stress.

Looks like a cool trail.

I am in AZ, and have never run any part of Carnage... but can you link the lower (seems to be most popular) with the section you did? Assuming no traffic, how long would it be to run both lower and upper Carnage together?

Well, "lower" Carnage can be done in 45 mins if you have a small, capable group and don't play on any of the obstacles, but where's the fun in that? I would say it usually ends up taking us 2 hrs or so.

Yes, you can definitely link the two - they are all part of the Lefthand Canyon system. The "lower" Carnage essentially ends at a trail junction called 5 points. I assuming AxleIke came up the Lefthand Canyon trail (how we normally go down from Carnage) to 5 points and took one of the branches that goes further up.

I've never been to Upper Carnage either, never knew if my open front and rear could make it

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Firemans Hill is off of a branch from the mild Left Hand trail just down (in elevation) from 5 points. If I'm thinking of the correct branch, I went down that my first time up at Carnage with Ric, Chris, Corey, and Brandy. It sure was a white knuckle hill.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please!

No.

Firemans is directly to the right as you come up from that last pitch of carnage, but before you head over to 5 points. Where the steep hill that's been closed comes out, it takes off from there.

This takes off as one of the branches at 5 points and is really mellow and tame to start, so no one heads up there. It is off to the right of the traditional LH canyon trail.

Indeed you can.

For your level of skill, and your vehicle, i'd allow the 2 hours to play on the lower section. You know your truck, and you have a lot of experience, so you'd probably want to take your time. I spent about 2, 2.5 hours on the upper section, but i was playing, and stopped for a scenic lunch. Probably could be up and back in 1.5 to 2 hours.

You're right. I had my thoughts mixed up. Not sure what the name of the trail I was describing is

you are describing the steep pitch off of the LH canyon road. It doesn't have a name really, it's just "that steep pat"
