Those look really nice - thanks for the link. Any idea how much they cost?

This is what I've got on mine, two pairs of cheap fogs from JC Whitney, about 15 bucks a pair:

The rock lights are fun, although when I've used them to get into tight parking spots at night, I've gotten some strange looks. The toughest part was running the wiring. Two are mounted up underneath the TJM, illuminating the front of the front tires, and two are mounted on the frame rails, pointed down at the front of the rear tires. I'd like to add another set to light up the rear of each pair of tires, but haven't gotten around to it. \

David,

Looks like you've got diving lights there! How many feet of water depth are they rated for?

Baja,

I got my light here . It cost $70.00 plus shipping, which is a lot for a light, but I got it into my head that I was going to have a LED light and it seemed to be this or some cheap things I found on the web with nothing in between. I think the number of mine is the L 5/18 (auto type with 18" neck). It seems nicely made and I see them on sites that supply emergency vehicles. The only issue I have is that it tends to "sag" a bit after bouncing around for a while. I don't know how much it would sag if you just let it go; it doesn't have to move very far before it starts vibrating against the mount for my LCD screen and I push it away a bit. I might be able to fix that by putting an aux. mounting pad part way up the flexible neck because I didn't really need that much bendable length as it turns out.

Wow - that's not cheap! But it sure seems like a nice product. You could probably leave it burning all night with no ill-effects. And it will probably last longer than the vehicle. Good to know about the length/sag issue - my little Copilot light is only 5" neck length, so it stays put on the roughest roads. I am sure you will come up with something clever to secure it

I saw these in Jeg's....I know, don't freakin hate me... the APC name makes me cringe too, but maybe they could be found for cheaper than what Jeg's has them for. (like Ebay?) & I'm sure that APC has more colors than what's shown on Jegs site.....like white or yellow - anything other than blue, green, or red!!

LED underbody lights

I'd still be worried about durability though....

This thread got reborn 'cause I posted up the message below. I pulled the thread minutes later 'cause I was trying to keep it a surprise from a couple of guys I ride with. But, one of the guys is a mod here and ended up seeing the post anyway. (argh!)

So... This is what I finished up on Saturday:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I've had my eye on this idea for a while, and I finally did it.

Call me RICER!

Before (click the little pics for bigger pics)

After

I went a bit overboard with these... I got the 7-color LED tubes with _wireless_ remote. The controller is pretty wild. Outside of multiple colors:

They can also sequence (in MANY different ways), and there's a sound control function where the lights will blink or change the sequence rate based on the sound. heh. I can't wait to get out on the trail at night and start up my rolling rave! BLING BABY BLING!

To answer the questions up at the top of the thread... The tubes are thick plastic (I don't think they're actually acrylic) and have some decent flex to them. The kit came with 4 tubes, 2 4' and 2 3', plus the controller and two wireless remotes. I got it from an eBay vendor for about $130.

Each tube has a number of sub-assemblies of LED lights. Each sub-assembly has a red, blue and green LED on it which is how you get the various colors. e.g., Purple comes from lighting red & blue, white comes from lighting all three.

What you see in the pics are just the two 4' tubes. I haven't decided how to use the 3' tubes just yet... I may put them along side of these with a bias to the front to get more light, or I'll mount them under the front & rear bumper to get more general coverage.

The tubes are mounted up on top of my sliders and are well protected from any direct hits from rocks and such.

"Kickin'!" (oh gawd)

*** I should point out that the camera is adjusting for the low light and really accenting how bright these are. They're not as bright as the pics lead you to believe, but I think that they'll be plenty bright for night riding. I'll hopefully find out next weekend.

I too have the 7 color LED lighting, consisting of 2-4' and 2-3' tubes that can handle quite a bit of abuse. I don't have the remotes, those would be cool. The best part about the lighting, it allows you and your spotter to see the obstackles, but not take away your night vision.

Then there's the fun factor in camp while the stereo is blasting and the dancing light show!

Because they are LED it doesn't drain the battery, so you could leave them on all night....

I have them mounted on the inside of the pinch weld on each side and one under each bumper.....
