Danny, here are a few suggestions:

1. In the multiplayer setup area I would make sure "Advertise Server" is turned off.
Or it will show up on the master list for the whole world to join in, and it would get boggged down.

2. Post the IP address perhaps here, but password protect the game, and anyone wanting to join in can PM you for it.

3. The port number to open up any routers that may be hooked to the PC is 7777 to 7778.

4. Program the game with 8 bots, and a maximum "human" setting of 16.
It should run pretty good.
And if we had 14 humans in, the bots would cut back to 2 to make up the difference of 16 total.

If you have that much bandwidth, it should run good.

Any chance of setting up an Unreal 2004 server later too?
That game even though it is newer runs better for those with 56K modems still.
Plus it supports real time voice chat, text to speech chat, and better graphics.

The 900 MHz PC though will not run it though, needs more horses under the hood.

Ok folks. The server is up and online, but I need to tweak it a little. The bots aren't showing up at all, so I guess I missed something in the config file. Other than that and a few other small things, it looks like it'll be all good for this weekend! Wooohooo!

Danny, I can not get in as there is an error.
I will include a website I zipped up last year with info for you.

http://www.pnw4runners.com/temp2/DE%...tch%20help.zip

I have seen this happen before in the past when I hosted.
Follow the info in the file, and it should help.

Oh yeah...

It works great, no lag, but then it was just me and no bots.
http://www.pnw4runners.com/temp2/shot12.jpg

We need bots

All weapons are turned on, that is good for team death match which is running now.

For Capture The Flag matches though, the 3 mutators I listed work really well.
fatboy
low gravity
instagibber rifle

Good! I hope lag won't be an issue! Dang, i thought i turned on the bots! Do you think we could get a game going friday night sometime? Do I just need to enable those mutators? We need to set a time when we might both be able to test it out so we can get it working correctly I could have sworn I added bots...lol

I game mostly on Saturday night, but it looks like most of the Sci Fi stuff I watch on Friday night is repeats.

I think I can game then.
I would like to see Chris, Steve, and Bob play too, but we get together for that on Saturdays most of the time.

Jim (mytruck) also has Unreal, maybe we can get him to join in too.

On the mutator page is a check mark at the top so those options will always stay on.
If you do not check it, they will not operate after the game is restarted.

Is this server at work?
Can you admin it from your home?

I know with UT2004 you can let others admin your server by setting up accounts for them.
They can do it from a webpage.

I gotta hit the fartsack here soon, and even earlier tomorrow night.

Best time for me to test would be around 5 PM Friday PST, or maybe I can squeeze some time in tomorrow night.

Looking forward to see how this works with some of us in it.

Configure the bots here:
1. http://www.pnw4runners.com/temp2/bot2.jpg
Pick a # like 10 to be safe.

2. Click on config to get to this screen
http://www.pnw4runners.com/temp2/bot1.jpg
You can then use the drop down list to select different models.
That bot in the above pic is the model I am using for me right now.
Scarry bad mutha

3. Opps, I forgot to snap this pic, but go to the match or rules tab and select 16 players.
This will allow 10 bots, and six real people.

Yeah lets try to get a good sized game going. I should be able to play any time on Saturday. Just make the time and I'll try to be there. Give the others the pw if you wish or they can just pm me for it. I can terminal into a server at work and config it, but thats my only access.

Danny, one more thing.
Sometimes I use a different character that is a robot called the warboss.
It is highly detailed, and when I played my son last weekend, I was invisible to him.

We do not want me to have the advantage of me being invisible now do we

You will need to modify the ini file in order for some of the characters you can select to be.
Here is the info:

Epic Games Presents
Bonus Pack 4
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Happy Holidays, and thanks for downloading the official Epic Games Bonus Pack 4.

This pack contains two new player characters and 12 maps.

The characters are "Xan - Mark II," and "WarBoss."

Xan Mark II: After his defeat in the Tournament, Xan has been rebuilt from the ground up. He's stronger, faster, and a hell of a lot meaner looking.

WarBoss: Liandri researchers have been experimenting with recently uncovered Skaarj technology and have been implementing their results in a
new model. Dubbed "Warboss," he's the fastest and most agile robot ever produced.

These characters are higher poly than the original UT characters, so you may see a slow down on slower systems.
If these characters fail to show up properly in a network game, check the UnrealTournament.ini file (in your UnrealTournament\system directory).
In the [Engine.GameEngine] section, there are several ServerPackages lines. Make sure that this line is there:

ServerPackages=SkeletalChars
PS, I see you got the bots added
http://www.pnw4runners.com/temp2/shot19.jpg

My player I use was not loaded though, I was human instead.
Strange, must be a setting.

Anyway, it ran ultra smooooooooooth with the bots in there.
Nothing like a short game before I leave for work

Maybe we can get more folk's to join in this weekend.

Good gravy, and I was getting slaughtered by you Steve in our game.

Danny, you have not done the low gravity before?
I play it on every map.

It is even better in UT 2004.
You hit it once to jump, then double tap your button you assigned to it to jump even higher.

You can also do this in both games with your arrow keys for all 4 directions.
You have to double tap them.
You also have to check a box for it.

We gotta get a UT 2004 game going too.
That game has a lot more available than the old one.
The voice chat thing is pretty cool, we could all talk while playing.

UT 2004 requires more juice in the CPU, but it is designed to play better online with less lag than UT.
This is better for those still on dialup.

Yeah, go ahead and start a new one for Saturday night.
Makes it easier.

I will try and play some tonight, but my youngest is stopping by for awhile to play World Of Warcraft.

Him and my older son bought about 3 months of time to play the game, and he wants to show it to me.

I myself would never pay $15 a month to play a game, but I guess this game rocks, and is only online play.

I use to play Warcraft 2 many years ago online with them when it came out.
