Which cb to buy?

looking to buy a cb for my truck. i am pretty much set on the Cobra 19 DX IV http://www.cobra.com/index.php?page=...ct_id=417&id=1 and the only thing thats holding me back is it dosnt have a weather channel. i can get it at wallmart for 38 bucks so it is deffinately a plus!
1. is it really worth it to get a weather capable cb..do they work well on the trail?
2. any other recommendations? i want to mount it where the ash tray is on my 3rd gen 4runner.

thanks

i had a cb w/ the weather channel... never used it (Uniden PC78LTXW or something like that). Still have it for sale sadly. Now I have the Uniden 520XL.

btw, a CB is a CB. I mean if it's just for communications with other guys on the trail, you can't go wrong with any ol CB. Just make sure you get a nice antenna though.

Good luck

i never use the weather channel either.

firestiks are not garbage. where did you hear/read that?

wilsons are good antennas too.

there's more than enough reading on firestiks and wilson magnetic mounts. another great time to use the search feature

The Cobra W2000 antenna I have works really well and didn't require any tuning. (I have it connected to my Cobra 75WXST so that may be why they work so well together)

I've used the weather feature during long trips when the forecast available before I leave doesn't cover those dates. The only place I've found so far that doesn't receive any weather channel is Death Valley.

hey remember how I mounted my cb? I have the Cobra 18WX STII and it works awesome with the firestik and fits awesome in my lower din. You just have to tune it well. I don't use the weather channel either.

firestik and wilson are both great antennaes with infinite ways to mount. search on firestik's website on more about cb's as their knowledge base is the best for the CB tech stuff. Here's the link if you're lazy to search (http://www.firestik.com/Tech_Docs.htm). Give that a rip and read up (LOTS OF INFO). It should answer all of your questions about CB (It's that detailed).

After you read everything, just buy any ol CB and have fun!

Good luck

I think you hear different opinions about Firestiks because some have the original Firestik "KW Series" and others have the much better Firestik II "FS Series". They look almost identical and i bet a lot of people don't even realize there are 2 different models.

ok, gonna go with the firestik II just because i guess, i like tha name more!!!!!!!
anyhow 99% going to mount it to the rear of my third gen but am not sure on what size to buy.....2,3,4,5 footer.
i woud like to keep it as small as possible and not stick up way above my roof...however, will i loose range this way?
if so, what size should i get and still be capable on the ROAD not only the trail. 10 mile range seems like plenty to me!

Wilson antennas are good! I personally owned 2 of them. One was a Wilson 1000, and the other was a Wilson 5000. With the 5000, I talked as far as Australia and South Africa ( from here in Hawaii!) Never did run a firestick but then again, I never heard anything wrong about it.
If you have questions, I will be glad to answer them the best I can. Just trying to help out my fellow CB friends. If you are on Myspace.com, look up my CB group, from time to time, I post up different pictures of CB equipment and vehicles. (WORLDWIDE 135 AND FRIENDS DX ZONE) Or you can just PM me.
