humming stereo
Hi everyone, this is my first post. I have a 2000 4Runner SR5. I bought it new in sept. 2000. I am having a problem with a humming coming from the stereo when my lights are on and the dash lights are on, it will go away if I dim the dash lights off . Has anyone had this problem? If so how did you repair it? I would like to know befor I start taking apart the dash. The truck just turned 38000 mi. and a dealer will cost to much and they don't realy tell you what they did.

hi quadcourtney, for my two cents worth on it, i would say try checking the "dimmer switch relay" (the location of which you can find in your owner's manual) & if that does'nt resolve the problem, i would then go to the "dimmer switch" itself to check for a short there, which is what it sounds like you have, a "short" that is, or, a loose relay.
i hope this helps,

it could also be that your signal is picking up interference from your dash lighting. this is caused by wiring from your dash light being too close to your head unit of your stereo or the wiring of the head unit. if this is the case, you'll have to rip out the dash and either put loom around the wires or move them apart and zip tie them or something so that they don't go back to where they were. If the system has an amplifier, check the lead to the amplifier first, that's usually the cause of interference. hope this helps and good luck
