Odds & Ends
Forgot to mention awhile back I picked up a spare 22re for FREE
Needs a rebuild, but heck you can't pass up FREE. Never rebuilt and engine before, but everyone says these are pretty straight forward motors.
Also, I though I would offer up how I installed my inner axle seal when rebuilding the front end. I basically put a socket extension in the wrong end of a 32mm impact socket. This matched up perfectyly to the diameter of the seal and with a few hits of the hammer it was snuggly in place.

Tranny Question
I currently have an automatic in my 85' 4Runner. I have stumbled across a W56-A 5spd and transfer case locally. It has 100,000 miles on it. The owner is willing to take $250 for it.
I realize InchWorm has come up with an adaptor InchWorm so that I could run a gear driven TC behind my auto...but is that the best way to go...thus being able to run run a crawl box as well. Seems like the 5spd would be easier/less expensive to service in the long run.
The thing I hated most about my auto on my 00' 4Runner was the fact that the torque convertor would never catch up on steep descents and I had to use the brakes way too much...and in most case would lock up tires causing the ass end to come around...not good in my opinion.
So should I pick up the tranny & tc and swap it out over the winter?

Driveshaft question
I know I will need to modify my driveshafts to accomodate the 4" lift. I haven't found anywhere where people have mentioned what they ended up paying for DS modification.
Seems like some folks have run the rear axle with no modification, but experience vibration...the suggestions have been to run a CV type rear DS.
Any thoughts on what I might end up paying to have this work done would be appreciated.

Well last week I rallied the troops and made alot of progress. You know when the guy that volunteered to help you wiht the welding shows up with this you are in for a good time
Here are a couple of pics of the front suspension and steering.
Things went pretty smooth.
The things that caught me off gaurd were:
I still have a few clean-up items like reconnecting the power steering hoses as well as the brake lines.
I totally forgot I need to order wheel spacers since I'm using the rims from my IFS truck that have a 4.25 BS.
I'm guessing I will need to go with a 2" spacer
In the coming weeks I will be tearing out the rear end.

- How long it would take to cut a hole in order to move the steering box far enough forward.
- How long it would take to drill holes in frame for steering box reinforcing plates. I went with the Front Range Off Road kit. NOTE: it did require me to drill out the mounting holes in the steering box to accomodate their slightly larger bolts.

Steering Shaft lengthing
What do you guys think about me using the spacer I have from my Roger Brown Body lift that I had on my 00' 4Runner to lengthen the driveshaft on this project?

You want one of these out of a mini Toy truck.
OEM on top.

And yes, moving the steering box forward, drilling the holes and mounting the sucker was a PITA. Just wait until you take it off again to add hydro assist and you'll have forgotten what a mess it makes to unhook and how heavy it is to pick up too.

Update
It has been awhile since I posted so I thought I would give an update. I slowed down a bit since alot of other things in life are going on...like my boss got fired and all eyes are on me to pick up the slack and possibly take over.
The good news is I located a w56 5spd w/ tc and a spare tc...I picked them up on Sunday and should be ordering the dual case adaptor in the coming weeks. The plan is to run stock 2.28 gears in both cases for a while and see if it is good enough for the stuff I wheel.

im running stock SR5 alloys and 1.5" spacers on the front with no issues. im pretty sure my wheels are 4.5" BS and im running a 12.5" wide tire on 7" rim, so the tires stick out past that.

Well I ordered my dual case adaptor from Marlin on Firday. I was able to get the TC torn down over the weekend. So hopefully by next weekend I will be putting the adaptor on.

Man I can't believe I haven't posted since MAY!
Well I finally got around to putting the crawl box together and the parts for my rear lift arrived on Friday. Pretty staright forward except for the heavy duty snap ring that comes with the kit. I lost it in the garage for about an hour after it shot off the snap ring pliers. Ended up in a bucket in the far corner of the garage.
I then followed Marlin's suggestion and had a buddy help me out.
I ended up going with the 23-spline set-up, Marlin had the 21-spline coupler on back order and I wasn't interested in waiting. They made a good deal on the 23-spline output shaft.
