I just put an complete elocked rear from a 99 4Runner into my 96 runner.

Now I'm weighing options for controlling the deal. I don't have any wiring axcept for the harness coming off the 3rd, and about 8" or the wires past the first 8 prong connector. And then I have the push button switch that goes in the dash. I Don't have the ECU or connectors for it.

I've looked at the Inchworm Gear's set-up, costing about $110 total for the electric git-up, and then Downey's cable swap kit for about $160.

I know people didn't used to like Downey's rig, but I guess it's "new and improved" (basically just shorter cable and mounts on floor instead of the dash now)

I'm just wanting opinions- up until today I was going to try to wire something up a little more "home built"... but these options seem easier- and maybe the cable would be more reliable?

EVERY single review I've seen of the cable system was bad.

Maybe they have improved it, but I wouldn't want to be that guinea pig ... unless they want to give me one for free to test ...

I used 12voltguy....he hooked me up with a sweet switch panel and harness for about the same price as the Inchworm. I like it because it was plug and play, plus it looks sweet!!

Some install threads with wiring diagrams if you want to give it a shot yourself.

Unfortunately, it's more involved than just a switch... but I plan to give it a DIY try eventually.

I was kicking around getting an e-locker but I'm going ARB instead. I was going to go with a Downey Cable. It sounds good. When I was researching, I kept hearing " I heard, I heard, I heard that the Downey cable is nothing but problems" I never heard from anyone that has a cable setup. I did talk to Downey and, of course, they said that it was new and works great. The problems that people had was with the length of the old cable. If I was going e-locker I would buck the system and take a chance on the Downey cable.

I'll have to give the 12volt guy a call Monday. So he set you up with the relays, switch, harness and all?

I think if I could just get a firm grasp on how it "WORKS" then I could rig something up pretty quick I think. I've already wired in some trailer wire up to the dash.
