i was wondering how many people on here have toyota tundras that are the 1st and 2nd gen versions with the 4.7 v8, i really like them and in the nexy year would like to get one, what is your guy's opinon on them, i need a little towing but dont need diesel power im towing quads, and maybe a small toy hauler, but i really like the body style these had and overall stance. i dont like the new ones idk its just to over done for my taste but what u guys think?

I am actually selling mine due to college travel but the second I get out im buying another one. They are awesome and it has 160k miles and all ive changed is oil and 2 coil packs, Hassle free truck that runs amazing and does everything i need to do.

I'm thinkin on buying a 1st gen w/a V8. I'd really like to get one with leather seats (limited) but I think they are kinda hard to find. Same boat w/ya, I'd like to do some mild hauling that the 4Runner cant do, but Diesel power is just not needed.

only thing i dont like about the 1st and 2nd gen tundras was their gas mileage. other than that i love em.

really? according to toyota, stock they get about 14 on the highway and 12 in the city

I love mine. As you can see by my sig I have a 2002 TRD, it has plenty of power for the type of hauling you are talking about. I've pulled my camper up the passes around here and it had no problem at all. The gas mileage is not great. I seem to get 15 mpg whether I'm driving all city or all highway. I have a pretty light foot though. Something to keep in mind is the 2002 was the start of the limited slip thirds.

Have a 2000 LTD TRD 4x4 w/130,000k. Great truck, plenty of power and good towing. Have replaced a cracked manifold, O2 sensor and brakes. The brakes in the early models are weak IMO. Upgraded after the second set of rotors and pads went bad. Overall I've love the truck and don't plan on replacing it anytime soon.

Huh? I regularly get 14.5 to 15 in town in my 06 double cab 4x4 and I'm running 33x12.50 BFG's. Best I've got was 19.5 on a long trip of freeway driving, worst I've got was 13 mpg towing a 7x14 trailer loaded with 2 quads and 3 motorcycles and all our camping gear.
According to Toyota - The window sticker says 15 mpg city / 18 mpg hwy.

Anyway, I love my Tundra, had it for just over a year now, bought it brand new in Sept. lasy year.

I own a 2000 4x4 AC with the 4.7l. I love it. It has been a really good truck. Replacing the starter is a PITA though as it is located under the intake manifold.

my 02 is doing 18-19 mpg highway and about 14-16 mpg city. Way better then the 4runner

Hey... just bought one on monday. 2002 access cab 4wd SR5 V8. So far, I have no major complaints. The thing is smoooooth on the road. I love the truck. Everything you want/need with none of the unnecessary add-ons. Gas mileage is kinda iffy, but hey, its got a V8 making 271 hp/ 315 ft-lbs. so you should already kinda know what your getting yourself into. Plus its hard to complain about mpgs when your 92 3VZE truck gets 10mpg (in my case).

I own a 2000 ltd. fully loaded, have had it for over 5years now and never had a problem, well except for the one time i was out 4x4'ing and I bent the drive shaft other then that it has just been general care, I plan on driving this truck till it completly falls apart, one of the best vehicle purchases i have made.

How does the 02' put out 271hp with no modifications? My 03' X-cab came stock with 245hp with the 4.7L engine. I added the K&N ait intake, which may have added 5hp max. The newer models have 282hp I belive, but require high test. I seem to get around 16 highway and 12-13 city.

oops...your right, Dave. The VVTi 4.7 puts out 271. The previous years had less. My bad. Either way, I'm in no way complaining about power out of this thing.

The 4.7L has plenty of hp either way. I'm very pleased with the power it puts out, even stock. The only modifications I made were a Gibson exhaust and the K&N intake and both took less than a hour to do. I just wish I could get a little better milage.
I was looling at the Firestone Destination AT tires. I checked them out on Tire Rack and they rate them at the top for snow and mud. Anyone try these out yet?

I'm running Firestone Wilderness on mine. Pretty mild mannered road tire. So far I have to say I like em alot. I've had no traction loss in snow (unless its intentional of course). I can't say for sure in ther mud, though. Very interesting tread pattern on these tires.

I have an 02 trd Limited and love it. It has the k&n cone kit and full trd exhaust. I get around 15-18 in the city and 19-20 mpg on highway trips. I would get better but I love the sound the TRD exhaust makes Mine has
68k on it and I have had to have tranny replaced, but toyota paid for half of it. most of my miles have came with a 20' trailer behind it. It does pretty well, putting a skid loader on the trailer was a mistake (IE new transmission) I love it and will buying a new body style here in the next few months.
