I saw one of these Landcruisers today.
At first I thought it was one of those Daihatsu's but then I saw TOYOTA on the grill and the Landcruiser emblem on the side.

Can anyone give specs, links, etc. on these rigs. These are damn cool!!

Mike

I got the specs straight off the south american websites... because they still sell new model LC 70s that are like those.

Then again... I speak spanish that kinda helps.

I tried looking around the world but not too many english speaking countries carry these, for some odd reason.
http://lc78.toyota.com.au/LC78/HomePage/0,,,00.html
This is the LC 78 pickup... in australia.

If you want the ones in the pictures specifically, obviously not the old LC 40s, then you can go to:
http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr

and put any of these as the website to be translated (near the bottom) from spanish to english obviously, and it'll make sense. Most of it translates.

(choose the fourth option for LC 70)
or

kinda off topic

Just not land cursers, I want an old double cab 79-83 or 84-88. They didn’t import them and there not worth a lot to many so it is real hard to get it here but I still want one. I don’t have any pics to post but they look way sweet.

ya, those look like BJ70s. We've got them up here, although they are uncommon.

Hey Sizzle,

Do you know what the going price is for one up your neck of the wood?

They're really rare everywhere I think... they're not specifically imported into Canada. Hell, they don't even offer it too often in Japan because they don't like the older look to them I hear... these are brand new 1998-2004 I would imagine, they're just marketed specifically to South America and several other markets because they're still wanted for their ruggedness and lack of showy look.

totally depends. There are BJ70s, 71s, 73s and 74s (might even be 72s, but I've never heard of them). They all look relatively the same with the major differences being wheelbase, removable tops on some and engine size. 70s were sold in Canada and are legal to import to the states from what I hear. They are also the least expensive in general of the above models. I've seen a few for as little as $5000cdn but they had rust issues and probably a few other areas needing attention. The engines on these things are all rock solid. 180,000 miles is nothing. The other trucks that are imported into Canada from Japan mainly aren't legal for importation into the US as far as I know probably due mainly to the right hand drive setup.

If you dig deep and look to find just how many different models of landcruisers there are and have been over the years, I'd bet the number is well over 30. It's too bad that we in North America have been deprived of these awesome automobiles. That being said, I bet that if we were living in Japan or Australia, we'd laugh after reading that and go to bed dreaming of someday owning a Ford F150.

Hey Sizzle,
Do you have a link somewhere of your FJ.
From the pic on your sig it almost looks like a toy (like a toy ride on). Don't take that wrong. Its just that it looks so prestine.

This is an LJ73, it's Spanish, from the Canary Islands.

There was an article in Toyota Trails a while back, about a guy bringing it across the border. Sounded like it was a huge hassle, but the bulkof the issue was because it was pickup used in the rock mines.

Land Cruisers rule, too bad you're not cool enough to have one Smegal!

Someday buddy. Someday.

In fact I had looked at three of them last month. My fav was a 78 sky blue parked at a pawn shop in Auburn with a For Sale sign on it. Very clean with a new paint job. It was a 78 and the guy wanted 10g for it. Although it was nice and the engine compartment looked decent I pointed out a few areas on the body with signs of rust under the new paint job. He was surprised when I crawled under the rear to point out the rust in the back panels that would have to be worked on and the obvious places of rust on the rig.
Immediately he changed his price to 8g. I told him it was a bit too steep.

Yeah, its amazing what they want/get for them. In retrospect, I really should have bought the one looked at for 8,000- it was already locked front and rear, auto tranny, chevy swap, disc brakes front and back. It was ready to wheel, but I wouldn't have the "pleasure" of spending twice that amount to do the work myself.....

Ya. All this had was an extra fuel tank built in. With the new paint I was kinda worried what may have been hidden under it.

After I talked with the guy I was walking towards my runner when he yelled out, "Man is that your Toyota". He and the Mrs walked around it she asked him if he could buy her my truck. I just laughed and said, Nah shes my baby!

So the hunt continues.

LC 70 series were the most common yota's in Holland, Germany, Belgium France etc. for years.
99% were diesel.
Available are 2.4 D, 2.4TD, 3.0TD. 3.4TD, 4,0 D etc.
All of them are left hand drive, only UK has right hand drive over in Europe.
The 2.4TD is most common and not even so bad in performance. Somehow they run faster (and quicker) than the pickups with the same engine.
Fitted a friend's LC70 with an intercooler last year, 2 weeks before it got stolen and rolled. Total loss.
