Weather was above freezing for my trip to buffalo, hit 275 miles @ 18.4mpg. Wallet cant wait till the weather gets warmer, especially with these gas prices.... then it snowed on the way home... lol...

Just got my air care done (Vancouver) and my obd 2 read 14 L/100 km. That's a 16.8 mpg lifetime average on 111 thou km.

I run 265/75 16 BFG's, arb bush bar and winch, mostly city, and have a heavy foot trying to beat civics off the line....so I was happy with that number!

Just did a long drive up north... speed anywhere from 45-70mph... 5% traffic / off road driving... and by no means did i drive "slow" like a grandma.. just drove smart... man i love my scangauge...
I hit 544 km or 338 miles, on 59.7L of gas (15.8 US gallons) (70 litre tank size)... average of 10.9 L/100km or 21.5mpg... i know i can get 22mpg or higher if i drive the same way... would have got better but i had to follow someone for 50km that likes doing 65mph in the hilly twisties.... i'm pretty impressed.... i want to hit 600k on a tank.... and that's with 336k on the odometer... (almost 209k miles)

How in the world did you get 544 kms on a tank??!!, 4cyl, stock sized tires?. I get 300-330 kms average, and almost 400 on the hwy. This is with the 3.4 auto and 285/75/16's.....also I have never been able to get more than 55L into the tank on a fill up. Anyone know how big the reserve is, once the fuel light comes on?. Once I drove about 50 kms onm the light and it didnt run out.

Hey dude,
1999 4runner limited 4wd V6, 87 octane (usually esso or shell), bone stock with brush guard and lights.
plugs are NGK platinums, new o2 sensers (denso) all regular maintenance done, 5w30 mobil 1 synthetic in the engine... tires are 265/70r16 michelin LTX m/s2's (stock size)...

Fuel light comes on for me at 49-52litres used, (verified by scanguage which is +/- 1L)

are you compensating for the additional size of the 285's with your mileage? They are 7% taller than stock tires, so you will have to multiply your mileage by 1.07 to get an accurate reading. 400km is then 428km.

Now, DDing (highway, traffic, city, etc.) when it's above 10deg C, i get about 360-380km till the gas light turns on. Below 10 (late fall, winter, early spring) it's 335km average...

On my long highway drive, it turned on at 455km. i know i can get a bit more out of it... i'm thinking 480km if i can polish up on my driving a bit more. Remember, this is "road trip" mileage, not DDing. And i'm not getting passed in the slow lane either, just being economical with my right foot.

Basically, it's driving habits, i watch my scangauge and try to keep my TPS (throttle position) below 20. This keeps the mileage nice. Going up hills i'll take it to 25 / etc.... i also try to maintain 80-90 going up hills... if the speed limit it 100 i'll try to maintain 110, because i notice when going slower, you really have to mash the gas to maintain speed, killing mileage. When you're going a bit faster, you kind of just cruise over and keep momentum. Just dont floor it all the time. Also, if it's a steep hill i'll kick it out of overdrive... you'll notice you will use less throttle than if you were in OD... much less...

The fuel reserve is 20 litres. The lowest i've taken it is 65L (5L left)... im not as scared doing this because the scangauge tells me the actual gas left in the tank, unlike the stock gauge.

I have no idea what my mpg is because it makes me sad. All I know is I go about 250 miles before I fill up. I probably could get more but I don't like to drive on E.

I get 18-20 driving light because of high miles and I don't like tickets. I use the cheap gas.

'01 Runner, changed plugs,should I change coilpacks?

'01 4Runner SR5 4x2, 180k. Changed plugs & wires for the 2nd time. First time at about 90k. Increased Hwy to about 26 mpg from 23. The coils are OEM from factory, should I change them too? Do they lose efficiency over time.
I drive 85 miles R/T to work (Over the Lk Pontchartrain Causeway) every day.

2001 with 130K completely stock (had it since 84K). I commute to work on the highway. Depending on season I will get 18-22 mpg. It's like clockwork, it will peak in the summer then slowly drop to 18 during the winter, then slowly rise back up to 22.

New plugs, wires, 02 sensor and air filter didn't help. The only thing that did help was changing the fuel filter.

Soooo... i just found out the hard way yesterday, that even though spec's state that 3rd gen 4runners have a 70L tank... it's actually 65L..... yay... (though if you "massage" the filler you can get 5 extra litres into it)...

In gallons there is about 18.5 (equal 70L) and yes I have found out the hard way too ...twice
Light comes on with about 4 gallons (16 liters) left.

I have been getting better gas milage recently after changing out my u-joint for rear axle. The joint was bad.

last 4-5 pumps have been averaging 20.+mpg for city/highway.

not sure if the three-digits weather in Houston helps the increase in MPG.

Bump for the Thanksgiving drive...

I took my 2.7 L 2WD auto this year and got 20.5 MPG (all highway, with 2 passengers and 250-300 lbs of crap, driving with a lead-foot). I just replaced my U-joints, cleaned my throttle body, replaced the air filter, and did an oil change with castrol high mileage and a mobil 1 filter.
