I have found 3 mods to drastically improve worries about gas mileage.
1. The $1 solution- I piece of black photo tape 2" wide- tear off a strip about 3" long and stick directly over the fuel gauge.

2. The $15,000 solution- do the majority of your driving in an ECHO, pretending it is only "to get around" and put a license plate surround that says, "My other car is a 4Runner" so you don't feel totally immasculated.

3. The "free" solution - Drive your 4Runner as God and those wonderful boys at Toyota intended- gas mileage is like how french fries you ate on your last road trip- you ate some, you're gonna eat more, you're eventually gonna stop and get some so don't worry about it.

Bob,

The same thing happens to me when I lifted my 4Runner with the PP 1" springs, and 265-75-16 Revos. My mpg went down 2-3 miles per gallon. Unfortunately, I can't tell you if it were the lift or the tires that did the most damage because I had both installed at the same time.

Tony.

Something just hit me...

265/75/16 does not have a larger contact patch than a 265/70/16?! So it's a combo of gearing + weight that attributes to the reduction?

Bob-

I did the TRD Cat-Back exhaust and switched to Mobil 1 synthetic oil and TRD filter all the same day and initially my mileage went down. After my third tank since the mods I'm right back where I started. 16MPG.:pat:

Tsk, tsk, tsk...

I'd have thought you would have figured this out by now...

Step 1. Buy and install the Type R rearview mirror.
2. Buy and install the Type R seatbelt cover.
3. Buy and install the Type R A/C vent mounted cupholder.
4. Buy and install the Type R seatcovers.
5. Buy and install the Type R A/C vent mounted cel phone holder.
6. Buy and install the Type R gear shifter.

After all exterior Type R mods add HP and interior Type R mods add more MPG, right?

also.. i can tell you from a tire mechanics point of view, that stuff is NASTY. dont ever bring your tires to me if you have that stuff in there. i HATE fix-a-flat. it gets everywhere, stains everything, and is very toxic
I agree, I have never seen fix-a-flat actually work. I remember when I was a tire tech and taking in flats with that crap in there! What a mess!!

Bob you mileage sounds like mine! I get 16 city driving and 17-18 freeway. I didn't see a gas mileage difference by installing my flowmaster 60 series muffler. If you find something that will work, let me know!

Just make the Camry your primary driver, and use the 4Runner on the weekends..
