I havn't heard of anybody doing a 5.2 swap. That would be pretty awesome. Anything is better than the 3VZ-E! I would agree that the lexus 4.0 would be great engine to swap in also. I ran across a website a while back that had a 2nd gen with a lexus 4.0 swapped in. Totaly awesome. I'm not sure about the LS400's 4.0, but I know the SC400's 4.0 made 250hp when they first came out. The horsepower went up to 260 around '95 (or maybe '94) and then to 300hp and 310 pounds of torque in '98. I think the newer 4.3 makes even more power, but I'm not sure what those figures are.

Anyhow, those 5.2 are neat. I saw a Ram with a supercharged 5.9 a while back. Would be neat if that 5.2 could be supercharged too.

Well, have fun all.

it's busy getting its butt kicked for swapping a chevy motor in!

a 460 powered ranger would be insane. i'd imagine without some heavy frame bracing and a 9" rear end at the very least, it'd self destruct in no time.

how come i've never seen an AMC swap? sure it's heavier than a ford motor(amc is about on par with a chevy v8) but the distributor is in the front, will bolt to a toyota R series transmission and is definitely more interesting than some boring chevy swap

my dad's 2000 GS400 makes 300hp 315lbs of ft\lbs of torque.....that thing is FAST RWD and pittsburgh makes it the summer car. that motor would be a lot of fun in a 4runner..has anyone ever done it? EDIT: Well i suck at reading but i guess it has been done but has it been done with the new 4.0 with VVT-i and such?

Go Lexus 4.0 V-8

Hi
Look into the Lexus 4.0 V-8. Check out www.lextreme.com . They have an entire section on swaps and a couple of people have already done it. The engines can be had on e-Bay for $250.00- $500.00 depending on how patient you are. There is a company in Australia that fabricates bellhousings to bolt up to the Lexus engine and the Toyota tranny. I am looking at doing it myself. The vehicle will need a 2" body lift or you will have to have a custom oil pan fabricated. Join the board at Lextreme and ask questions, I have found the people on the board to be knowledgable and friendly, and very helpful. You can also do a google search for 1uzfe which is the engine model and it will lead you to Dereks hilux V-8 conversion website. He has some good insights and some costs, unfortunately they are not in American dollars. Good Luck and be sure to let us know what you decide to do.

Well people 5.2 dont fit at all, yet.body lift is a must do.4wd's gotta go.wife dont need 4wd anyway.i may could keep 4wd if i use a dry sump oil pan and system, but bellhousing covers half drive pinion on front flange.exhaust is the biggest prob, steering shaft is all up in the way!does anybody make custom headers?wiring efi is also a small issue.

i've only heard of 1 4.7 swap. it's a VERY wide motor, kind of like the ford 281.

and worse yet, you can only put it in front of an automatic transmission

Not true. The Aussies and New Zealanders are using manuals with the 1UZ and 2UZ all the time. The 1UZ and 2UZ are dimensionally the same and require the same parts to mate to a manual. As previously posted, www.lextreme.com is a wealth of info. There are a number of threads highlighting 2nd Gen swaps - keeping IFS by using a front sump oil pan - and the 2" body lift is debatable if using the front sump pan.

Sooooo......you have been doing some investigating I see. When are we going to start stuffing this Lexus motor into your Runner ?

I plan to complete my research, prep, etc prior to having an issue with the 3.0. There's a guy on Lextreme who did the swap into a 4wd Hilux in 4 weeks. Since I have an auto, my swap would be easier (cheaper) than these guys converting to manuals (no custom bellhousing). The a340f bolts up to the 1UZFE, which means dual cases are possible too. Really the last piece of the puzzle I'm trying to figure out is what year engine/ECU and a340f will be the easiest to use.

I don't get it. That engine is not physically larger than a small block chevy. Stock exhausts of course won't fit, custom headers are always part of a v8 swap. And what does 4wd have to do with it? The tcase is way in the back... Changing oil pans to clear the diff (if you don't do enough lift) is also common - there are dozens on the market and you could build one for that matter. "don't fit" doesn't make sense. "not a bolt in" makes sense, but no one expected it be a bolt in.

Flamedx4,your right,i wanted it to be a little simpler, but i new better.I will have to build an oil pan,use a 3in bodylift, and find another T/C,the current one is a left hand drop. The stock exhaust will almost fit,but a hair too wide.Actualy the 5.2 is narrower than the 350.i'll send yall more pics.
