URD Install Finished and Results!
Intall was completed today with the arrival of the 2.2 inch pulley from URD. Loaded up the start up map from the FTC and put it on the dyno to make sure everything was running right. All seemed good - no fuel leaks or check engine lights. Took one pass and put down 234hp and 270lbs. Was in the process of hooking up the scanning tool and noticed that the shaft on the nose of the S/C was leaking oil. Soooo - shut everything down and am sending off the nose to magnesson monday for a rebuild (at the shops expense). So hopefully by next weekend I can start to get it all tuned in!! Couple of questions:
How does the power output seem with no tuning done?
I do not have headers - any idea how much I might gain from them = worth
it?
I was running about 8.5 - 9 psi - Is this normal for the 2.2 pulley?
- Anybody in the Seattle area next weekend wanna help a tuning newbie out

Those are pretty good numbers, but I bet you could get the HP up a bit with proper tuning.
As for the header question...yes, you could get some ponies from installing them. I bet you would see 10WHP and similar TQ gains. As for being worth it, well, it depends on how you look at it. Would you be installing them? If so, maybe. If not, then you are looking at $1000 installed for 10WHP. You be the judge. If I could go back in time, I would probably skip them due to their unreliability and increased "valvey" sound from the drivers-side head.
8.5 - 9 psi seems right with the 2.2 pulley.

Ahhh... the sound of a new S/C install is ringing clear through the Sammamish Valley!
YAY!
Hey Gregg, yeah, I think I can give you a day next weekend - the only thing is that I'm trying to get a new transmission in so that may take priority. Anyway...
Bummer on the nose leak - I gotta go back and say again that I dunno why those guys thought that they were doing the right thing by pulling it apart in the first place. weird.
The initial dyno numbers sound great, but yeah, we should be able to squeek some more out of it. The boost numbers are awesome btw - I only get 8 out of mine, which makes me wonder if I don't have a leak... hmm.
Headers will definitely help - as would a freeflow cat and muffler. The biggest thing that you'll get from headers is more torque down low and a smoother HP curve. If you do decide to go this route, then remember that the install is a bear - figure $1000 for Downey's installed, more for TRD's since the crossover is across the top and the headers themselves are more expensive to start with.
Also... if you do end up with new exhaust stuff - then figure on re-plumbing from front to back and move up to 2 1/2" pipe. The extra 1/4" from stock will help things breath.
Congrats on the install, and I'll let you know how things work out for time.

Thanks Mark! I will send you a PM this upcoming week to see how things are shaping up. It all depends on the nose rebuild and if it makes it back in time. If you need an extra hand with that tranny install, I could trade you for a day of tuning Also, with the headers, do you think it would help lower the engine temps as they must be pretty hot with the smaller pulley..

Ummm... I think that headers may help in lowering EGT because the gases will exit more freely, but they're also gonna put you in a spot that you're making more HP so it may be a trade-off. Do you think you're running hot? The top end (actually, the max HP target) at WOT is 1450*... I run around 1000* at highway cruise, and 650* at idle.
