Tire Size Clarificaton for 2nd Gen
Hi all,
I was checking on my rig (95 4runner Limited 4x4 3L, AT) and noticed that the door frame says this--------
225 75 15 = (small rubber bands for tires)
Vin Number
VZN 130L-GKPGEA
C/TR 2K3/LP44
A/TM G144/A340H
Manufactured in 2/95
I also have a first gen that says the same tire size.....
CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG................
Didn't the 4WD 4runners come standard with 31 10.5 15's after a certain year.
I know that there are different speedometer gears available for the 4x4 trucks...depending on the size tire you have.
So my question is - Is this sticker always right for what came on the vehicle....???????
What the heck do the other numbers on the above sticker stand for? I see AT trans and some other mumbo jumbo.
Thanks everyone,
Mike

This page here is suppose to tell you by the #s that are on your door what gears you have.
http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/other/4_axles.html
Not all 2nd gens or '89 to '95 trucks came with 31s.
My '90 Extracab 4x4 came with the puny 225 tires and fugly silver steel wheels.
My 4Runner also came with the small tires as the spare tire is the smaller one.
Some rigs that came brand new from Toyota with the 31" tire package also states on the door jam that it came with 225s.
The 31" tires were an option that you paid more for.

That door sticker is a generic sticker the factory slapped on every truck no matter what option package came with the truck. If you have the factory aluminum rims and 31" tires you probably have 4.56 gears if it is a 5 speed or 4.88 gears if its auto (lucky bastards!). Just use Cory's link to figure out your gear ratio. The numerically higher gears (mechanically lower) were only offered with the larger tire package as that was an option.
