No, V6 gears won't fit in a 4cyl 3rd. 4 cyl gears however, will fit into a V6 3rd with some shims. Or so I've heard anyway.

I am pretty sure that the gear sets are not interchangeable, but the complete thirds are.

I've heard this too - that both the 4 cyl and V6 3rd Members fit either axle housing (housing is the same??). The V6 gearsets only fit the V6 3rd member though.

Hmmm, I had a rear third member gasket left over from my 85 22RE days, and it won't fit my '90 V6 third member. The '90 third member is physically larger than the old one was. So you might want to check carefully if you're thinking of putting a complete third member in your axle.

I have put a v6 third in my 4cylinder diff housing. They fit fine and are a little
bigger ring diameter witch means the pinon is alittlle bigger witch = stonger.
But as said the v6 gears will not a 4 cylinder third.
