STRANDED IN MOAB: 4th gen rear diff ring/pinion gear replacement
hello all- i am needing to replace the ring and pinion gears in my rear diff (toyota 8") and need a couple favors done: 1) the shop is quoting me $275 parts and $300 labor, labor seems high to me...opinions? 2) since i am stranded in moab, can somebody locate these parts so I do not have to depend on these guys? '03 4runner sr5 4wd 8 cyl. i do not have the VIN # as the truck is in the shop now.

Call me on my cell. Maybe I can help you from here.
I can run to toyota and possibly get parts shipped.

Andy, he broke his gears on the trailhead in moab. Unfortunately the 3rd is already out sitting in the shop at Moab Offroad so hopefully it'll get fixed ASAP.
Mike, I'll give my toy dealer a call and see what I can do as well.

I realize that, but if he has AAA, then get a tow to the nearest road, call them and have a flatbed take it to a Toyota dealer and get it fixed for free. However, since the third is already pulled, then it's a moot point.
$300 is a touch high considering the third is already pulled, but you're also in a bit of a pinch. $200 would be more like it for a pulled third to pull the R/P and pull the bearings, then replace the ring and re-press the bearings.

The socal warehouse has 2 gears in stock (only the gears).
Not sure exactly what you need so the prices might flux.
I have two different part numbers who prices for both:
41039.34080 $374.71
41201.80189 $746.89
I think Kyle is quoting the other part number.
I'd say go w/ whatever the shop is offering. Hopefully you'll be home wednesday.

After what I was Quoted, and what Lance found, I would make sure the shop is getting the right part. It sounds low now. I gave toyota the correct info for 03'/V8/8"
rear ring and pinion.
